Educational Visits

A unique and exciting learning experience for all

Educational Visits

The Landguard Peninsula offers a wide range of educational opportunities all in one place - unique experiences and hands-on learning outside of the classroom.

Landguard Fort is a fascinating view into the military history of the area from the reign of Henry VIII to the 20th C. Whilst the Felixstowe Museum holds a number of artefacts (dating from Roman times) relating to all aspects of local history.

The Landguard Nature Reserve is a Site of Special Scientific Interest with a wonderful variety of flora and fauna including the rare Stinking Goosefoot plant. Traces of the area's military history can also be found on the reserve, and this makes for a fascinating mix of military architecture and unique wildlife habitats. Overlooking the Nature Reserve is the Landguard Bird Observatory which rings and records migratory birds as they pass by on their way in and out of Britain, as well as identifying and recording moths. All of this is situated next to the UK's largest container port where there is the John Bradfield Viewing Area.
